THE CITY OF EMBER by Jeanne DuPrau

Book 1: THE FIRST BOOK OF EMBER

The city of Ember was built as a last refuge for the human race. Two hundred years later, the great lamps that light the city are beginning to flicker. When Lina finds part of an ancient message, she’s sure it holds a secret that will save the city. She and her friend Doon must decipher the message before the lights go out on Ember forever! This stunning debut novel offers refreshingly clear writing and fascinating, original characters.

Comments: Did I ever like this book. It was so interesting the journey you take with Lina and Doon is captivating. However the end did not hold to that same standard. I hate reading a dystopian such as this and finding out the reason behind everything is stupid. Now with this one I wouldn't exactly use the word stupid but the end was a major let down, thus I did not pursue the rest of the series. Still a great and clean read for the teen in your life.
