QUICKSILVER by Neal Stephenson

Book 1: THE BAROQUE CYCLE

In which Daniel Waterhouse, fearless thinker and courageous Puritan, pursues knowledge in the company of the greatest minds of Baroque-era Europe — in a chaotic world where reason wars with the bloody ambitions of the mighty, and where catastrophe, natural or otherwise, can alter the political landscape overnight.

Comments: I did not understand half of this book. It was complex with math stuff. I can think of a few people who would really enjoy this book but I did not. It whipped around from time period to subplots in a manner that left me confused. But it was well written and detailed and complex and interesting in the parts I understood.
