ONLY LOVE CAN BREAK YOUR HEART by Ed Tarkington

Welcome to Spencerville, Virginia, 1977. A time when teenagers roamed wild and free. When sons worshipped God, loved their mothers, and feared their fathers. And when eight-year-old Rocky still worshipped his older brother, Paul–sixteen and full of rebel cool–who was happy to have his younger brother as his sidekick, until one day things went terribly wrong and Paul disappeared.

Seven years later, Rocky, now a teenager himself, must reckon with the past after a mysterious double murder brings terror and suspicion to their small town, and to their broken family.

Comments: The writing itself was good, but when I finished the book I couldn't identify what the point of the book was. Then I asked myself what I was going to take away from this book, and I couldn't come up with anything. The novel has very interesting and distinct characters. However, there is some disturbing content where the main character is engaged in sexual activity as a minor with a much older woman. I felt like the older woman wasn't presented as the true sexual predator that she was. I also found the ending to be rushed, and it could have been handled in a more effective way. Overall, the book was meh.
